Is the online course different than a traditional classroom course?

Online course content is the same as courses offered in the traditional classroom.

Do I need special software installed on my computer?

No. each student gets access to a ZOOM virtual classroom. Students receive an invitation to attend with a link to the virtual classroom. Assistance is available if necessary.

How is the course presented?

The course is live and follows the schedule laid out for the modules. Students connect to our Virtual Classroom to view Instructor-led lectures and interact with the instructor and other students.

How do I talk to the instructor during the course?

Using the speaker on your computer or personal device, students are encouraged to ask questions, participate in group discussions and engage in classroom conversations.

CPE Certified Port Executive Program

The CPE CERTIFIED PORT EXECUTIVE™ PROGRAM is a five day management course designed to provide participants with a professional education opportunity related to the operation of ports, marine terminals, vessels and the broader transportation system.

Through this program, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the marine transportation system, port and terminal management and maritime administration.
The program gives participants tools and knowledge to make their organization more effective, and has drawn the attention of a broad cross section of executives from all over North America. Over 500 participants representing more than 85 port authorities and 65 terminal operators have become part of the program.

PORTSTAR Seaport Security Training Program

PORTSTAR is a comprehensive online seaport security training system that was developed as an affordable training for all workers who come on secure areas of US seaports and terminals. More than twenty thousand workers have become users on the program.

The program covers nine individual courses covering all regulated training requirements for employees and first responders in secure areas of seaports.

PORTCON Conference and Expo

Originally established in 2006, this conference and expo has evolved into a bi-annual gathering of senior port management professionals from all facets of port, terminal and supply chain partner operations in America and around the globe.

PORTCON is a unique professional learning opportunity for the entire industry designed to help management professionals stay abreast of current and emerging topics and trends in the industry. Attendees learn from the speaker presentations and panels, from the solution providers in the expo, and by networking with their peers. The program awards participants 1.5 Continuing Education Units(CEUs).

PORTCON is also the annual meeting of the CPE Certified Port Executive Program This is a professional development program for port and terminal executives with a growing alumni of over 500 managers dedicated to building a strong future for America's intermodal transportation network.

MacDonnell Security Risk Management

MacDonnell Security Risk Management has a 50-year history of providing services to the port community and has delivered training and risk-management services to the maritime industry since 2003. With a history of developing new opportunities for management and technical professionals to learn in unique and innovative ways, MacDonnell is expanding its range of training options to deliver programs in a variety of flexible and cost-effective ways.

In July 2010, MacDonnell and the FSU staff who developed the PortStar security training system joined forces to offer the program nationally and internationally. With access to 480 online lessons, ports and first responder agencies can use the DHS-recommended blended learning approach, which combines online lessons with on-site trainers, increasing training capacity and quality while reducing costs.

Fred Wilder, USCG Ret., has more than 35 years of professional experience in government affairs, military operations, business development, and business-to-business sales. He as a strong background in the maritime community and strong sales experience.

Product Development

Judd Butler holds an MS in Educational Psychology and Learning Systems from Florida State University and has 14 years’ experience as an instructional designer and performance consultant working with the U.S. Army, navy, and Coast Guard.

Technology and Support

Steve Schultetus holds MS degrees in both Experimental Psychology and Computer Information Systems backed by 10 years’ professional experience with Web-based systems and technologies. Most recently, he led technology product development for a leading e-learning company.

Instruction and Support

Kristin Brown holds a BFA in graphic design from Florida Southern College and a BA in history from FSU and has experience in print and web design as well as mixed media. She also has several years’ experience as a management analyst with the Florida Department of Education.
